“Do you want to stop Obama from killing people?”

That was just one of the questions local residents heard last Wednesday from two men near the Gig Harbor Post Office on Judson Street. The men, who represent the LaRouche Political Action Committee, stood outside the post office with pamphlets and other materials that describe what they called the “Obama Nazi health care reform.”

Lyndon LaRouche, a political activist, has spoken out against President Obama’s economic and health care plans, comparing them to Adolph Hitler’s decisions that led to the “great crime against all humanity,” according to a LaRouche newsletter.

Visitors to the post office were greeted with questions such as, “Want to fire our Nazi president?”

Some who stopped to interact with the men were told that the Obama health care plan was equivalent to the treatment of the crippled and “worthless” in Nazi Germany.

Each man took turns trying to engage with passersby. Both refused to give their names.

While some responded with a “no thanks” or an “I’m busy,” others chuckled and voiced support.

Norman Rood of the Key Peninsula said the link between Obama and Nazi Germany was a “bad choice of words.”

The men also had an altered picture of Obama’s face, fashioning him with a mustache similar to the style made infamous by Hitler.

“They have the right to protest as an American,” Rood said. “However, Obama with a Nazi mustache is way over the top.”

Joan Enneking of Port Orchard said she is a conservative but thinks the group’s association of Obama with Hitler is “over the top.” Enneking said she’s against socializing health care and many of Obama’s policies, but she also said she supports the president.

Carolyn Lott of Gig Harbor took one of the pamphlets.

“I’m concerned about Obama and his ways,” she said.

Elanor LaBerge, an outspoken Obama supporter and volunteer, wasn’t too fond of the message.

“I really resent this,” LaBerge said. “I think they’re insane.”
