Pierce County

Suspect jumps into bay

Nov. 21 — An employee at a Purdy market allegedly observed a man put a half-gallon jug of milk into a shoulder bag and try to leave the store. Employees and patrons detained the man, who then ran toward the Purdy spit. The suspect jumped into Henderson Bay but was soon caught and escorted back to the store to await deputies. The man was booked into Pierce County Jail for shoplifting plus an unrelated warrant.

Hit and run

Nov. 22 — A man called deputies to report an overnight hit-and-run collision and damage to his trailer. The victim reported hearing a collision at 1:15 a.m. There were no suspects at the time of the report.

Car prowl

Nov. 23 — A man called 9-1-1 after he found someone had reportedly broken into his vehicle. An unknown suspect took two laptop computers and a video game console with seven games. The victim noticed pry marks on his vehicle’s door.

Vandalism

Nov. 23 — An employee at a retirement home discovered graffiti painted on the facility’s sign and adjacent lighting.

Stolen ID

Nov. 24 — A man called to report he noticed several unauthorized transactions on his wife’s bank account. Cash withdrawals from several ATMs were made in both Issaquah and Kirkland. The victim has since canceled the account.

Scuffle and DUI

Nov. 25 — A deputy observed a male driver swerve in the roadway and stopped the driver at Peninsula High School. When the deputy attempted to arrest the driver, the suspectect resisted. Two deputies then handcuffed the suspect and took him to Pierce County Jail, where he was booked on DUI charges.

Attempted theft

Nov. 26 — A local business owner was alerted early in the morning by a motion sensor at his nearby business. When he arrived at the scene, he found someone had attempted to hotwire an already disabled step-van without success. Damage to the van was estimated at $200. There were no suspects at the time of the report.

Suspended license

Nov. 26 — A man who was stopped for a speeding violation was found to have a suspended license. A search of the vehicle revealed marijuana and a concealed knife. The man was cited for driving 57 mph in a 45 mph zone, for not having insurance and for having expired tabs. He was taken to jail for third degree driving with a suspended license, possession of marijuana and having a dangerous weapon.

Nov. 22 — A man on Greyhawk Avenue reported to police that an unknown suspect spray-painted a foul four-letter word on his fence.

Showoff

Nov. 24 — An officer observed a Chevy Corvette do a 180-degree turn in the parking lot at a shopping complex off Point Fosdick Drive. After stopping the man, the officer reported smelling alcohol. The officer asked the driver what he was up to, and the man responded, “New car, new date, you know.” The man passed field sobriety tests, but he was transported to the police station along with his female passenger. The man was cited for first-degree negligent driving, and both parties were given a ride to the man’s house.

Vandalism

Nov. 25 — A Gig Harbor Public Works official reported spray paint vandalism at Cushman Park. Damage was estimated at $100.

Car prowl

Nov. 25 — A man called police after he discovered his backpack had been stolen from his car. The man reported the backpack contained college textbooks and a calculator valued at $400. The backpack was left on the front seat in plain view. A suspect was described as a white man in his 20s who had long, curly hair and was riding a mountain bike.

Agency assist

Nov. 26 — An officer received a report that a recently stolen sailboat had been spotted in the harbor. The patrolman found the boat occupied just out of the harbor in Puget Sound. Tacoma Police Department’s “Vigilance” boat was dispatched. The Tacoma officers apprehended a suspect and towed the vessel to Gig Harbor’s city dock, where the man was taken into custody. The boat owner secured the vessel.

Purse stolen

Nov. 26 — A woman at a local gas station returned to her unlocked car and discovered someone had taken her purse. The woman said her purse contained her ID and $63 in cash.

Pallets taken from store

Nov. 27 — A male suspect in a white Ford F-150 pickup truck allegedly stole 12 to 15 wood pallets from a local grocery store. The suspect was described as being 40 to 50 years old. The pallets are valued at $10 a piece. A partial license plate number was given to police.

Mushroom pickers

Nov. 28 — An officer contacted a man and woman who had been suspected of picking mushrooms from a known harvest area. The officer recovered 120 grams of the Psilocybin mushrooms and later found marijuana and drug paraphernalia in the suspects’ two cars. Oxycodone that belonged to a cancer patient — and the patient’s wallet — was also found. The man and woman were cited for drug possession and possession of drug paraphernalia.
