Family displaced temporarily due to fire

Red Cross provides emergency assistance

Gateway staff report

Published: 04:07PM May 7th, 2008

A fire late Friday night caused a Gig Harbor family to be moved out of their home and find help from the Red Cross.

The Gig Harbor Fire District, led by Battalion Chief Mike Miller, responded to the fire at 10:43 p.m. on Friday at 9324 Randall Drive NW.

According to reports from the American Red Cross Mount Rainier Chapter, the charitable group provided emergency assistance because the “home was destroyed by fire.” A family of four — two adults and two children — were displaced from their home.

The fire district’s report said the fire was confined to the room of origin.

“The displacement was most likely caused by smoke damage,” said Linda Abbott, an administrator at the fire department.

The Red Cross is currently supplying the family with shelter, clothing, quilts, toiletries and groceries.
