Tacoma Community College is offering Scholarships for Upward Mobility, a program available to students interested in studying engineering, computer science, math, science or information technology.
The deadline for second consideration is April 15. Fall classes begin Sept. 22.
About 20 to 25 scholarships will be active at any given time, ranging from a few hundred dollars to $10,000 per year. Awards are need-based and are made possible by a grant from the National Science Foundation.
Students must be enrolled or plan to enroll as a full-time student at TCC, have a minimum 2.5 grade-point average, and be a U.S. citizen, refugee alien or permanent resident alien.
Applicants must complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at www.fafsa.ed.gov, complete a SUM application at www.tacomacc.edu/sumprogram, write an essay, provide evidence of academic achievement and submit two letters of recommendation.
Four-year institutions including the University of Washington, Washington State University, Seattle University and Pacific Lutheran University are partnering to provide SUM scholars pathways beyond TCC.
