Published: 10:19AM March 26th, 2008

Following are Police Reports as published in the Peninsula Gateway, March 26, 2008.

GIG HARBOR

Hit and run

March 17 — The front desk manager at a local hotel called 9-1-1 to report that a Kitsap Airporter van had struck a late model Hyundai, damaging the car’s bumper. The driver then left the scene. A call to the company identified the driver, who later contacted the responding officer. She was reportedly apologetic but was cited for leaving the scene after striking an unattended vehicle.

Girl’s bike found

March 18 — A walker called police after finding an abandoned bicycle on the Cushman Trail. A serial number search did not find an owner. A novelty plate on the bike was the only identifying mark. No suspects or victims were known at the time.

Homeless camp

March 18 — Concerned residents called police after finding a tent and makeshift campground in a community-owned tract of woods. Rumor had alerted neighbors that a 17-year-old runaway may be living at the site. After multiple attempts failed to locate the camper, police and public works crews dismantled the tent. The property was taken to the evidence room at the police department.

Drinking and driving

March 22 — After a call to report a juvenile party in the 4900 block of Rosedale Street, a Gig Harbor Police officer waited down the street from the party to nab drivers leaving the party. A speeding VW Jetta with four girls was clocked going 37 mph in a posted 25 mph zone. The officer conducted a field blood-alcohol content test on the young driver, who blew a 0.057. Two of the other passengers who were also underage blew 0.130 and 0.053, respectively. The driver’s father was called to the scene. The driver was cited for a minor driving after consuming alcohol. The passengers’ cases were sent to Remann Hall and were awaiting charges for minors in possession of alcohol.

PIERCE COUNTY

Off-roading

March 17 — A Gig Harbor resident was involved in a single-car accident in the 8900 block of 82nd Avenue NW when a man went to grab a propane tank that was rolling around on the passenger side of his company pickup truck. While his attention was diverted from driving the vehicle, the truck left the roadway, striking and damaging a utility pole. It was unknown if the driver was injured.

Paintball attack

March 18 — A representative of a church called 9-1-1 to report that unknown suspects had shot paintballs at a wall on church property. No suspects were known at the time.

Warrant wagon

March 19 — A sheriff’s deputy recognized a 1990 Toyota pickup truck as a vehicle driven by a man with known violations for driving while his license is suspended. After stopping the man and his passenger at 62nd Avenue and Goodnough Drive, the driver told the deputy he had no insurance. After detaining the driver for the suspension warrant, a search found open beer containers. The passenger was also arrested after a warrant was discovered. The driver was cited for driving with a suspended license, not having insurance and for open container violation. Both suspects were booked into Pierce County jail, and the truck was impounded.

Stolen wallet

March 19 — A man called deputies to make a theft report on funds charged on his missing bank card. A statement from the man’s bank showed a $69.26 charge at a Gig Harbor restaurant. The man believes he either dropped his wallet at a local store or left his wallet on the counter. The man also reported that the wallet contained his driver’s license, social security card and $200 in cash. No suspects had been named.

Credit card fraud

March 20 — A Gig Harbor woman called 9-1-1 to report that her Visa statement showed numerous unknown transactions. A woman who left her name at a Tacoma video store had charged purchases at the store, the Tacoma Krispy Kreme and at multiple other gas stations, restaurants and convenience stores. It was unknown if a suspect has been caught by press time.

Car parts

March 21 — A woman called deputies to report the theft of her catalytic converter from her late model Nissan pickup truck while it was parked at the Purdy Park & Ride. The responding deputy believes a battery-powered saw was used to steal the emission device. There have been several similar thefts in recent weeks.

Repeat offender

March 21 — A deputy responding to an unwanted guest on Fox Island received information that the suspect had driven away erratically. The deputy spotted a woman parked at the Fox Island spit boat launch. The woman pulled onto the roadway driving on the wrong side of road for 100 yards. She then continued swerving until she was stopped in the 8500 block of Warren Road NW. The deputy smelled both alcohol and vomit when standing at the driver’s window. A warrant for driving with a suspended license and a warrant from Kirkland for DUI were found for the woman, who had a walker and was unable to take field sobriety tests. A field blood-alcohol content test came back at 0.188. Hydrocodone was found in her purse as well. At the Gig Harbor Police Department, two other BAC tests were implemented. The woman registered 0.307 and 0.296, respectively. She was cited and her car was impounded.
