Nov. 13 — Police were contacted by Gig Harbor Public Works employees near the Gig Harbor YMCA, where several light poles were found inoperable from an apparent theft of the wires from the underground access. Eight lights were damaged. Crews estimated two workers will need 80 hours of work to repair the damage. There were no suspects at the time of the report. Gig Harbor police are asking for anyone who witnessed the thefts to call 253-851-2236.
Nov. 13 — An officer found a set of illegal brass knuckles attached to a male driver’s key chain, after the man was stopped for a reported suspicious vehicle call in the 7700 block of Pioneer Avenue. The man was cited for possession of a dangerous weapon and released from the scene.
Nov. 6 — A Lakebay man called 9-1-1 to report 20 harassing phone calls to his cell phone. He suspected a boyfriend of a woman he briefly dated about three years ago. In one message, the man reportedly told the victim they should meet face to face, and that the victim would pay for dating the suspect’s girlfriend.
Nov. 6 — A female homeowner and victim of a Gig Harbor home called deputies after she discovered someone had ransacked her home and stolen checks and jewelry. The suspect appeared to have gained access to the home through an unlocked back door. The victim was given an inventory sheet to fill out after she had gone through her home and accounted for her belongings. There were no suspects at the time of the report.
Nov. 7 — Deputies took a report from a male reporting party after the victim found unauthorized charges from his bank-issued Visa card for more than $500. The victim’s accounts were changed and his bank credited his account for the lost funds.
Nov. 7 — A man called deputies to report the break-in and theft of a car stereo from his step-daughter’s 2004 Kia Rio. The car was parked at Peninsula High School during a regular class day. The man recovered his step-daughter’s wallet and ID from a good samaritan who found the items in the street. An unknown suspect reportedly broke out a passenger window on the car to steal the property.
Nov. 8 — While on a routine traffic stop, a man told a deputy about what he believed to be a theft ring based out of his home and masterminded by his two sons. The man said the suspects sleep all day and stay out all night. The man showed the deputy several items he believed were stolen by the sons, including a pickup truck canopy, vehicle rims, a golf cart, CDs, an office safe, credit cards, an ID badge for an area business, marijuana and methamphetamine. When the deputy went to one of the son’s rooms to question him, the son already had fled the scene. Investigators expected to find and charge the pair with the several crimes, including drug possession and theft.
Nov. 9 — A man called 9-1-1 after he found damage to his Toyota pickup truck’s door. An unknown suspect apparently had made off with a speaker and amplifier for the truck’s stereo.
Nov. 10 — A woman called deputies to report the break-in and theft of a GPS navigation system and a day planner from her secured 2005 Dodge Durango. An unknown suspect reportedly broke one of the car’s windows to steal the property.
Nov. 11 — A woman reported the apparent cutting of a security fence chain on her property. She the responding deputy she heard her dog barking about 11 p.m. the previous night. The woman said she didn’t see any suspects at that time.
Nov. 12 — There were no significant injuries suffered by two drivers when one car failed to stop and hit another that was yielding to traffic in an attempt to turn left into the Peninsula High School parking lot. The driver at fault told the responding deputy they didn’t hit the brake soon enough.
Nov. 13 — A woman’s father called deputies after her boyfriend reportedly punched and broke a window at the father’s home. The suspect fled from the scene after he was confronted by the father about his repeated behavior. The boyfriend was later detained when he returned to the area. The suspect was cited and later released for malicious mischief and taken to his Gig Harbor home by authorities.
Nov. 14 — A deputy on routine patrol spotted a suspicious vehicle off the roadway and partially hidden in the area of 150th Street and state Route 302. The 2001 Chevy Tahoe appeared to have damage consistent with a stolen and abandoned vehicle. The deputy spotted a man who was sitting in the rear of the van in a compromising position with panties in his hand. Before he asked the man to step away from the vehicle, the deputy observed him dig in the vehicle’s console in a suspicious manner. The man tried to flee, but was brought down by a Taser application. While the man was in the back seat of the deputy’s car, he said he had a gun near the van. But he later admitted he said it to distract the deputy so he could attempt to escape through the cruiser’s window. The deputy later found a stolen pit bull, some methamphetamine and other small items in the vehicle. The dog and van both were impounded, and the suspect was booked into Pierce County Jail on numerous charges.
