Event brought in $8,000 last year

The Dr. Penrose Orthopedic Guild held its annual fundraiser last Saturday at a seasonally decorated Longbranch Improvement Club to support Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital in Tacoma.

Despite thunderstorms and downpours, the event was well-attended.

Gentle sounds of special music from Pat Constantino, flute, and Joyce Fischlin, keyboard, wafted over assembly.

Guild members take their mission seriously. Member Mona Margolis provided 32 cases of jars of homemade jams and jellies that she prepared for the annual event.

Member Joyce Tovey said the guild, with its relatively small active membership of 21, “annually provides financial support for Mary Bridge.

“Last year we contributed $8,000 to the cause,” Tovey said.

The guild holds monthly meetings at the homes of its members.

For information on membership or how to help the guild fulfill its mission, call member Rosie Rosenbach at 253-884-3665.
