Car crash

Oct. 17 — Firefighters responded to a one-car injury collision and found a 39-year-old woman up and walking around. She told paramedics that the only injury she received was an abrasion on her arm from the airbag deployment. She was treated at the scene and released.

Go cart melee

Oct. 18 — After rolling his homemade go cart, that was not equipped with a roll bar, at a speed of approximately 30 miles per hour, a 34-year-old man lost consciousness in the crash. Later, the man took a bus to St. Anthony Hospital where emergency room staff evaluated his condition. Finding that he had likely suffered internal trauma, paramedics were called to transport the man to Madigan Army Medical hospital for care of his traumatic injuries.

Child activates alarm

Oct. 19 — Firefighters responded to an automatic fire alarm after a 3-year-old child pulled an alarm pull station. The medical facility staff noted that they would be placing covers on the pull stations located in the area where this, and two other small children, had pulled the alarm over the last few months. Firefighters talked to the child and the mother about the incident.

Smoking chicken

Oct. 20 — An area woman went to bed in the early evening and was later awoken by her smoke detector. She had been cooking chicken in a pan of water on her stove and thought she had turned it off. At just after 10 p.m. she was awakened by the smoke detector and was able to get out of the home through the thick smoke. Firefighters found the pan on the stove, no fire, but plenty of smoke. They assisted in removing the smoke and allowed the occupants to return to their apartment. Two adjoining apartments were checked for smoke and were soon cleared for residents to reenter.

Woman falling from car

Oct. 21 — A witness reported seeing a woman fall from a moving car. The man gave a good description of the car and told dispatchers that the woman got up and got back into the car after falling out. Firefighters arrived at the location the caller provided and found a car matching the description. Crews found two women in the ladies bathroom, with them admitting that they were the subjects in the alleged falling incident. Their story was that the one who fell out had told her sister that she needed to go to the bathroom bad, opened the door, and was pulled out after somehow becoming entangled with the cars door. No injuries were incurred by the sister involved in the incident.

Boy breaks leg

Oct. 22 — Child Express clinic staff called for a paramedic transport of a 2-year-old boy who apparently was playing with his older brothers when his leg was broken. His mother drove him to the Child Express for care. He was transported to Mary Bridge Children’s hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Man assisted

Oct. 23 — A man was found sleeping under the awning of an area store front. He was wet, cold and unshaven. Paramedics could not get the man to talk to them except to give his name and Social Security number. Crews transported the man to an area hospital for further care.
