PenMet Parks to host second annual Family Fun Festival

Published: 12:15PM August 26th, 2009

The Peninsula Metropolitan Parks District will host the second annual Family Fun Fest from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Goodman Middle School.

The event was scheduled to be held at Sehmel Homestead Park, the district’s newest recreational facility that will feature 98 acres for sports and leisure activities, but the park isn’t quite ready to open.

Eric Guenther, special projects coordinator for the parks district, said he hopes more people will attend this weekend’s festivities than the 300 who were at last year’s inaugural event.

“We like to do something in the warm summer months, so we came up with the Family Fun Fest,” Guenther said. “We’re doing more things and bigger things. We’re looking to grow every year.”

The biggest event PenMet puts on each year is its Easter Egg hunt, which attracts about 1,200 people, Guenther said.

Saturday’s Family Fun Festival will have a variety of games, including an obstacle course, carnival activities and a bounce house.

“It was a good opportunity to have fun on the grounds before my son started school,” said Wendy Flick, who added that PenMet puts on great family-centered activities.
