Aug. 10 — A man stopped by the Peninsula Detachment to report the theft of several items from his home. The long-haul truck driver told deputies he discovered a go-cart, pressure washer and aluminum stolen after he returned home from work. The victim called the hardware store that he purchased some of the items from. A store employee reported seeing a trio of suspects trying to return the pressure washer. After the employee refused, he noted the suspects were in a 1970s Datsun B-210 with a sheet of plastic covering the rear window.
Aug. 10 — Deputies took a report from a woman who found the vinyl seats in her boat had been ripped off along with the foam cores. The boat was moored at their private dock. There were no suspects at the time of the report.
Aug. 10 — Deputies responded with fire crews to the 3800 block of 174th Avenue for a mobile home fire. The homeowner’s son saw smoke and alerted his mother to call 9-1-1. No injuries were reported and the home was said to have $60,000 in damage.
Aug. 11 — A Lakebay woman reported that a man who appeared intoxicated spoke with her male friend in her driveway after a short errand. After she unloaded items from her car, the woman looked up to see the man standing next to her right rear wheel. The woman reported to the deputy that she saw a metallic item in the man’s hand. A short time later, the woman discovered the tire was flat with a sidewall puncture. The woman’s friend said he knows the suspect as a neighbor.
Aug. 11 — A man called deputies to report the theft of a laptop computer, a guitar amplifier and some jewelry from his home. The man later found his daughter’s ex-boyfriend’s wallet in the home with a pawn receipt for the computer. Two records checks showed the suspect was in custody at Pierce County Jail for an unrelated domestic violence incident. The deputy also discovered recent pawn shop transactions for the stolen items.
Aug. 11 — A man told deputies he discovered his 8 horsepower outboard boat motor had been stolen. The unknown suspect appeared to have cut the boat’s fuel line and unbolted the Mercury outboard from the vessel.
Aug. 12 — Key Peninsula Parks District employees detained a man at Volunteer Park after they caught him trying to steal gas from park property. A short struggle preceded the employees’ overpowering the man and placing him in flexi-cuffs. The deputy found out that the man was trying to get gas for a stolen car that he’d driven to the park. The man was taken to Pierce County Jail.
