The Longbranch Improvement Club will host the third annual Beyond the Borders Arts and Music Festival on from noon to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 1.
The event will feature music, art and food from around the world. Admission is free for the family-friendly event.
Featured music on the outdoor stage will include The Erev Ravs (Klezmer); Mailbu Manouche (Gypsy Jazz meets Surf Guitar featuring Neil Andersson and Peter Pendras); Jami Sieber (world music on electric cello with percussion and vocals); and Sambatuque (Afro-Brazilian and Afro-Cuban jazz).
Rhythm Intermission, a drum ensemble, and the Washington Association of South Sound Ukulele Players (WASSUP) will keep the music going between acts and entertain on the indoor stage.
There will be a juried art exhibit inside the large hall, with an opportunity to vote for the People’s Choice award. There also will be arts and craft items for sale by local artists.
Food with an international flavor and specialty desserts will be available from the Longbranch Improvement Club kitchen. The club also will have a beer garden featuring beers of the world, wines and other beverages.
The Beyond the Borders Arts and Music Festival is designed to offer the community a chance to experience the sounds, sights and tastes of other cultures — without a passport.
The event is co-sponsored by the Longbranch Improvement Club and the Two Waters Arts Alliance, plus a grant from the Angel Guild.
Beyond the Borders also is supported by the Pierce County Arts Commission and a grant from Key Pen Parks. For more information, call 253-884-4807.
