Gig Harbor

Stolen items from purse

Aug. 19 — A woman called police after discovering her car had been broken into. The suspect(s) stole her purse, which contained her wallet, credit cards and $120 in cash. A man later found the purse without those contents.

Driver nabbed

Aug. 20 — While on patrol, an officer noticed a car without a front license plate. After stopping the car, it was discovered that the driver had a suspended driver’s license. One of the passengers admitted to having marijuana and drug pipes in the car. The suspects were cited and released from the scene. They planned to have a licensed driver pick up the car.

Employee theft

Aug. 22 — A store employee was caught by loss-prevention personnel after stealing a vacuum cleaner worth more than $50. The suspect admitted to the theft, saying she was trying to raise money to help her leave her husband. She was cited for third-degree theft.

Break in

Aug. 22 — A Judson Street business was broken into via a broken door lock. The owner said $200 in cash was stolen.

Graffiti found

Aug. 23 — A police officer on routine patrol discovered several signs and a power box painted with graffiti. Photos were taken and detectives were investigating at the time of the report.

Stolen shirt

Aug. 24 — A store employee stocking shelves had left a shirt containing a debit card, cell phone and $10 in cash near a shelf. The woman stepped away, and when she returned, the shirt was gone. Store surveillance cameras caught the theft on tape. It showed a white female, blonde, about 5-feet-5 and 120 pounds committing the crime.

Stolen video game

Aug. 27 — A woman and her 7-year-old son were shopping at a local store when the boy placed a portable gaming device on a stack of newspapers. By the time the mother realized the game was not in her son’s possession, it was discovered that an unknown suspect had taken the device. The store was going to review surveillance tapes to help nab a suspect.

Stolen scooter found

Aug. 27 — A local man who was shopping with an electric mobility cart experienced a mechanical breakdown, which forced him to abandon the cart and call a friend for help. When the man returned, he discovered the cart had been stolen. A worker at a local store later found the cart and called the man to get the scooter.

Park and ride theft

Aug. 28 — The owner of a 1999 Mazda Tribute called police to report a theft of the vehicle’s catalytic converter. The device is valued at $500. This is one of many recent reported thefts of similar car parts from the park and ride.

Pierce County

Stolen credit card

Aug. 22 — A woman called deputies to report that an unknown suspect had used her credit card number to make purchases in eastern Washington. There were no suspects at the time of the report.

Stolen identity

Aug. 22 — The victim in a potential credit card scam called deputies after returning from a European vacation and getting a credit card bill for $14,000. The victim thinks someone got his credit card info while he was making a transaction at a Rome business that required the use of a pin number. The victim’s bank canceled the account.

Crash leads to DUI

Aug. 24 — An accident on Sehmel Drive and Bujacich Road occurred between two vehicles. The driver of one of the cars refused medical aid but piqued suspicion of police because of an appearance of intoxication. A Washington State Patrol trooper investigated the driver for DUI.

Sailboat recovered

Aug. 24 —A Lakebay man called 9-1-1 to report seeing an unmanned sailboat adrift near Lakebay. The caller recovered the vessel and towed the craft to shore. The registration was run through the Department of Motor vehicles, which found the owner to be a Shelton resident. Multiple calls were made to locate the owner without success. The boat was to be held until contact with the owner could be made.

Stolen crane

Aug. 26 — A man called deputies to report a theft of a large truck with an attached crane from a work site on Fox Island. The owner reported that the keys to the truck were under the driver’s side floor mat.

Boat sinks

Aug. 28 — A man called 9-1-1 after watching another man in his 50s or 60s struggle with a row boat near Fox Island. The caller reported seeing the sailor’s boat take on water, fold in half and rapidly sink. The reporting party was unable to see if the man escaped the sinking vessel. A search was made by aircraft and by boats without success. The Tacoma Police Department police boat Vigilance and the Pierce County Sheriff’s department boat Reliance were part of the search. The report didn’t state whether anyone was reported missing.
