Illegal fire

July 25 — Firefighters were called to a Wauna-area residence for a burn complaint. The fire was found to be illegal and the owner extinguished it. A report was to be submitted to the Puget Sound Clean Air Agency for possible fines.

Family to the rescue

July 27 — A Lakebay teen recognized the signs of a diabetic emergency and saved a family member’s life. She noticed the patient becoming lethargic and incoherent, and she checked the patient’s blood sugar. She then called 9-1-1 and helped the patient drink juice and eat a meal. When medics arrived, the patient’s blood sugar was normal and the situation was resolved.

Bee sting

July 28 — Medics responded to a toddler who had been stung on the lower lip by a bee. No signs of allergic reaction were found. The patient remained at home with parents.

The sounds of an accident

July 29 — A Wauna-area resident called 9-1-1 after hearing an accident near their home. Medics and firefighters arrived to find a vehicle on its top, off the roadway, on Creviston Drive NW. Despite rolling the vehicle end over end, the driver appeared to have no serious injuries and was transported to a hospital for evaluation.

Rapid heart rate

July 30 — Medics responded to a Longbranch residence for a woman who was suffering from a sudden onset of a rapid heart rate. She was evaluated at the scene and transported by ambulance to a hospital.

Fainting episodes

July 28 — Paramedics treated a woman who reported she had been feeling heart palpitations for the past week and had several fainting episodes shortly after the faster heart beats. Paramedics transported the woman to a hospital when symptoms continued.

Slippery ladder

July 29 — A man was working on a 6-foot ladder when it slipped and he fell, striking his head. Paramedics treated the man for a head injury and pain to his ankle. Full spinal protection was provided as the man was transported to a hospital.

Dog fight

July 30 — A woman was walking a new dog and a dog she’s had for some time when they began fighting with each other. She intervened and was bitten in the forearm by the new dog. Paramedics treated and bandaged the puncture wounds and transported the woman to a hospital.

Car crash

July 31 — Paramedics examined a man whose vehicle was struck by another car and forced off the roadway after the collision. The car came to rest against a retaining wall in a yard. They bandaged a knuckle that had been cut during the collision and released him at the scene.
