Asthma attack

June 30 — Paramedics were called to a local doctor’s office to transport a 15-year-old male who was having a severe asthma attack. The boy said it was the worst attack he ever experienced. He also told paramedics he had just recently started smoking.

Grass fire

June 30 — Firefighters responded to a reported grass fire near a home. They found a 20-foot by 30-foot grass fire more than 300 feet from any structure. The fire was extinguished.

Spoon beating

July 1 —A 15-year-old went to a neighbor’s house after being hit with a plastic spoon by her mother. The neighbor called 9-1-1. Paramedics treated the minor wounds and called for a Pierce County Sheriff’s deputy to join them at the neighbor’s house. The young girl was left in the protective custody of an officer.

Fallen woman

July 1 — A city worker found an elderly woman lying on the ground. EMS was called to the scene and the paramedics found that she had fallen, hit her head and cut her hand. Paramedics were able to determine that she was not injured badly, but after talking to her daughter — who told them her mother was 90 years old — it was decided that she should be seen at a hospital.

Submerged vehicle

June 30 — Medics and a Water Rescue team were called to Jackson Lake after children discovered a car submerged near the boat launch. Responders checked the vehicle for occupants, and the Pierce County Sheriffs Dive team responded to recover the vehicle.

Diabetic emergency

July 1 — Medics transported an elderly male to a local hospital after he suffered a diabetic emergency. He was stabilized at the scene before being taken to a hospital.

Free falling

July 2 — An adult male patient suffered a minor head injury when he fell backward onto a concrete floor at Camp Easter Seals. He was evaluated by paramedics and transported to a Tacoma hospital for further evaluation.

Pronounced dead

July 3 — Paramedics were called to the home of a Horseshoe Lake resident after he was found unresponsive. Medics determined that he had died hours earlier. Other agencies were notified.
