Terri Radcliffe Hunziker has been battling non-smoker’s lung cancer for nearly five years, and the fight has involved devastating medical treatment expenses.

To offset some of those expenses, Hunziker’s family and friends will be holding a fundraiser at 6 p.m. May 7 at the Lighthouse Christian School, 3008 36th Street NW in Gig Harbor.

The public is invited to attend.

Hunziker was diagnosed with Stage IV lung cancer in December of 2003 and was given a 2 percent chance of surviving. The outlook at the time was about nine months to live.

Hunziker has developed tumors in multiple places, including her brain. She has undergone radiation several times, including gamma knife treatment.

She has researched her disease extensively and has become an expert in the treatment, including natural and holistic treatments. She also developed a national database and Web site, NeverSmokers.com. She has also detailed her struggle at MyBumpintheRoad.com.

Hunziker attended Vaughn Elementary, Goodman Middle School and graduated from Peninsula High School as the salutatorian in 1981. She graduated from Central Washington University with a bachelor of science in biology in 1984. She taught for 12 years and was the Regional Science Teacher of the Year in 1992.
